Neumann / Reim

Live at Molde international jazzfestival 1976, 2004

Saxophonist Carl Magnus Neumann and pianist Christian Reim has been two of the most controversial artists in the Norwegian jazz community for more then 35 years, and this recording is the only one that exists with the band they had together in the 70's. Neither Neumann or Reim have released any records under their own name before. This recording was made by Erling Wicklund for the norwegian broadcasting, NRK, and was intended for radio. Somehow it was lost in their archive for 27 years! How the mastertape was rediscovered is a long story, but Jazzaway Records was contacted by Christian Reim last year and he told us about his desire to have the music documented on record, and we where able to cut a deal with NRK to release 1000 copies of this wonderful music.

Both bassist Bjørn Kjellemyr and drummer Ole Jacob Hansen (who died a couple of years back) gives strong support on this recording, and the original compositions of Christian Reim are very strong indeed! Carl Magnus Neumann is without a doubt one of the most exiting and talented saxophonists ever to play jazz in Norway, and on this recording his is playing outstandingly.
